Deactivating a workspace
Workspaces are deactivated, never deleted. What that means for your data, who is allowed to do it, and why you cannot deactivate your last one.
Dhanu does not hard-delete workspaces. Closing one deactivates it, which hides it and blocks access while keeping everything intact underneath.
What is kept
All of it. Members, their roles, projects, tasks, files, and history stay exactly as they were. Nothing is destroyed, so a workspace can be brought back later without anyone losing their place in it.
What changes immediately
Deactivating is enforced everywhere, not just hidden in the interface:
- The workspace disappears from every member’s workspace list.
- Every membership and permission check for it stops resolving, so requests against its projects, tasks, and files are rejected.
In other words, it goes quiet for everyone at once, including for anyone with a direct link.
Who can do it
Only an Owner or the workspace creator.
You cannot deactivate your only workspace
If the workspace you are trying to close is the last active one you belong to, the action is refused. You would otherwise be left signed in with nowhere to be.
Create or join another workspace first, then deactivate this one.
After deactivating
You are switched to another active workspace automatically. If you need the deactivated one back, contact support — the data is still there.
