Library

Files and folders

Upload, organise, preview and find things — folders, drag-and-drop, moving between spaces, sorting, filtering by kind, and the details pane that tells you where something came from.

The Files tab is the working part of the Library. It behaves the way a drive should, with one difference worth knowing: much of what is in it was made by the assistant rather than uploaded by you.

Getting things in

Upload. Use the create-or-upload menu, or drag files straight onto the page — including onto a folder to put them there.

Let a task produce them. Anything the assistant writes — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck, an image — lands in the space the task belongs to, without you filing it.

Make a folder. Folders live in one space and can be nested. In a team library, a folder can be private to you or shared with the team, so a working folder does not have to be visible before it is ready.

Opening things

Clicking a file does the most useful thing for its kind:

KindWhat happens
Document, spreadsheet, deck, canvasOpens in the editor, ready to keep working
PDFOpens in the built-in viewer
Image, video, audioPreviews in place
Anything elsePreview if we can, download if we cannot

Every file can be downloaded in its original form.

Finding things

Search covers files and folders in the space you are in.

Sort by name, when it was modified, or size — ascending or descending.

Filter by kind — folders, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs, photos and images, video, audio, apps or archives. This is the fastest way to answer “where is that deck” in a busy space.

Recent files sit at the top of the Library, so the thing you touched an hour ago does not need finding at all.

The details pane

Open details on anything selected to see its type, size, when it was created and modified, and — for a file the assistant made — the task it came from, as a link. That backlink is the answer to “where did this number come from”, months later.

Moving and tidying

  • Move files and folders between folders, and between spaces — from My Files into a team library, for instance
  • Rename anything you own
  • Select several and act on them at once from the selection toolbar
  • Delete into the trash, where it is recoverable for thirty days

Moving something between spaces changes who can see it. That is the point, and it is the one action worth pausing over: dragging a personal draft into a team library shares it with the whole team immediately.

Working with it well

Let the assistant file things. Ask a task to put its output in a particular project or library rather than moving it afterwards.

Fewer, flatter folders. Search and kind filters find things faster than a five-level hierarchy, and a deep tree makes moving work between spaces harder than it needs to be.

Use the source-task link. When a figure looks wrong, open the task that produced the file rather than guessing at its provenance.
